Recently one of my clients asked if I could suggest her page to friends on Facebook. She told me she had gotten several “Recommended Pages” notices from people and she’d like to do the same.
At first I thought she was referring to Facebook ads, or Evites, or Sponsored Stories because I wasn’t seeing any “Recommended Pages” notices and I could not see a way to suggest Business (aka Fan) Pages to friends. And nobody in the hundreds upon hundreds of pages of social media studies or countless hours of seminars I had listened to had mentioned it.
I asked to her to screengrab it next time it showed up – and there it was, a Recommended Page! What the #@*$*#?
According to allfacebook.com, Facebook has quietly restored the ability for SOME (not all) administrators to suggest pages to friends. AllFacebook mused whether the “haves” and “have-nots” are a test group and a control group for Facebook to study whether to permanently reinstate the feature for all admins. If they’re looking for input, here’s my two cents: YES, reinstate it.
When I checked the many FB pages I administer, I found the functionality was available on one of the pages – the page I spend the least amount of time promoting.
So there you have it. If you think you saw something on FB, blinked, and it was gone, you’re not crazy – you’re just part of a gigantic, real-time experiment in the Facebook lab.
